John Belcher began his career in 1981 as a laborer with the foundation crew at the Rolwes Company in St. Louis, MO. By 1985, he had worked his way up to foreman, leading a six-man foundation crew. In 1989, the company’s owner, Edward Rolwes, approached John with an opportunity to purchase the foundation portion of the business. Seizing the opportunity, John founded Belcher Construction Inc. in 1990.
In its early days, Belcher Construction used Symon forms, loading them onto trucks and trailers for transport. The 1990s saw rapid growth for the company, expanding to three crews and acquiring their first set of aluminum concrete forms. John got creative, modifying beer trucks to move the concrete forms before eventually purchasing a knuckle boom crane and truck from the Las Vegas showroom. Throughout the years, John and his long-time foreman of 30 years took great pride in meticulously maintaining their equipment, ensuring that every form and piece of hardware was well-oiled and cared for, recognizing that such attention to detail pays off significantly over time.
Belcher Construction Inc. primarily focused on the residential market, working for three major builders who each constructed around 100 homes per year. However, the housing market crisis required the company to scale down and adapt. As the market recovered, John developed a strong relationship with a local builder that continued until the company’s final concrete pour.
With 43 years of experience in concrete foundations, John has always been hands-on, whether as a foreman or owner, working alongside his crew on every job. His commitment to quality, attention to detail, and strong relationships with builders have been the hallmarks of his career.
BIC Auctions congratulates John Belcher on his well-earned retirement and applauds his remarkable career. John’s looking forward to spending more time with his family and we wish him the best as he begins this next chapter
